DUNGAVIN WESTIES
Grooming - still being updated
Westies require regular grooming.
We often get asked how often should we clip our westies and the answer is never straightforward as it depends on a number of different factors including coat type, lifestyle and the environment that you live in. Irresepctive of how often we clip our westies they require brushing on a weekly basis to ensure that their coat remains matt and grass-seed free.

It is important to note that Westies do no shed their coat, which is why we need to clip their fur
Hand stripping vs Clipping
Traditionally westies are handstripped but this does take skill and time to do properly, hence we only handstrip our show dogs. Once they have completed being shown we tend to clip them for ease.

There are pros and cons for both methods

Weekly Grooming Tools
Having the correct tools for grooming makes the task so much easier.

It has been through trial and error that we have now settled on a couple of tools that we use for our weekly grooming. These are:
- Slicker brush
- Metal comb
- Straight edged scissors
- Nail clippers
- Clippers
- Grooming table - useful but not necessary
